I Predict No Response Before The Election And A "Hell No" After The Election

From Political Brief:

Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) wrote to his counterpart today asking for GOP support on helping social security recipients who will not receive cost-of-living adjustments next year.

In a letter to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Reid urges the Republican to support Democratic legislation that would provide one-time $250 checks to seniors in 2011. ...

Reid’s letter was co-signed by 18 other Senate Democrats ...

Mr reid maybe right. Things might change. Some of those folks,if elected, are tea party supported.

Helpful social programs may head downward.

The formula did not provide for a COLA increase, so why are people on Social Security any more entitled to a $250 handout than someone that is not on Social Security. Harry Reid me $250.

I have to agree with this (#2), as a Federal retiree whose COLA is tied to SS beneficiaries. The best thing is to make all of us sacrifice, even Federal employees, military members, and rich folks who got the huge windfall with Bush tax cuts. We need to bring the fiscal house in order, and that includes cuts in spending as well. Make it as even as possible across the board.

I'm already sacrificing by paying higher property and school taxes at a time when there's supposedly no inflation.

Have y'all been keeping up with the activities of the Banks regarding foreclosures lately? And, have you followed the compensation levels of the Big Bank board members?

The only people who are sacrificing are the people who can be made to. Namely, all of us down here in the cheap seats who didn't invent CDS's, MBS's, and Liars' Mortgages. I think we can afford an OTP of $250 for our beneficiaries. I expect that we won't break us. The Banks may break the economy, but not a measely $250 bucks per bene. Don't think so. Nancy Ortiz

my husband is on ssd and ssi. we make it on less than 700 a month. you try it. the only things we get from the government is food stamps and health-care for him. money doesn't go very far but we are not be hind on our rent and other bills. 250 is a joke but i could use it. it would go to move out of a town that is filled with payees that steal your money and med doctors. no jobs. no hope to get off ssd and ssi for him.
