You Can't Cut Social Security Without Hurting Current Recipients

From a press release issued by Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee:
Any cuts to Social Security imposed by the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction would be borne almost entirely by current Social Security beneficiaries and those who are very near retirement, a new analysis by Social Security Chief Actuary Stephen C. Goss makes clear. Three-quarters of all Social Security payments between 2012 and 2021 – the 10-year period in which the Select Committee is required to generate deficit reduction – will go to current recipients, while an additional 21 percent will go to Americans who are very close to retirement-age and will start receiving benefits between 2012 and 2019, according to the Actuary’s analysis.

The analysis highlights that there is virtually no way for the panel to use Social Security cuts to meet its target without harming current beneficiaries. Current retirees have struggled in recent years because there was no cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in 2010 or 2011. The Social Security Administration yesterday announced a 3.6 percent COLA for 2012.

Read the next article "Some Management Bonus Information" for a source of possible/needed $$A cuts that will not hurt beneficiaries. ...

If one lives in CA and gets SSI(Supplemental Security Income), It's bad enough that SSI benefits are totally inadequate now days, some in New York state are advocating doubling the FBR(Federal Benefit Rate) from $674 a month to $1348 as right now I'm can't rent 99% of the apartments in the USA(Housing Choice Vouchers are closed and capped, rentals around here don't like pets and start at $599 a month for an apartment), nor can I feed Myself adequately, If I were to eat pretty well, then I couldn't buy new clothes to replace 5 year old clothes(just repair holes in pants pockets and watch the shirts get more and more holes in them) or to repair My cars A/C or to replace a psu or to buy new sheets and a blanket, buy a replacement car to get food with or to use to go to a Doctor or even to get non-existent for Me Dental work on My front teeth, etc, etc. I'm disabled and not by choice as I broke My left leg and dislocated the right hip in 2002(I now have a bad left ankle as I have two scars on either side of the left ankle where 3 Titanium Screws were put in and this means too much walking and My ankle starts to hurt a lot), I have a low output thyroid that I was born with(I took thyroid hormone pills that only raised My body temperature, since discontinued the pills) which causes depression, anxiety, eyesight problems(I wear prescription glasses), concentration(spell checker in the browser), weight, osteoarthritis, back problems(I'm 6'1" tall, about 390-400lbs in weight and 51yrs old), Yet some say I'm a freeloader, or behind My back a parasite(their narrow minded jealous knuckle-dragging troglodytes), I'm not either one, I'm human, It's not that I won't work, It's that My body and part of My mind can't work, Private industry said I'm unemployable as they can go out and get plenty of unemployed people to be employees and so just like SSA said I'm permanently disabled and unable to work, I can't go and live with My relatives as except for a Sister in law they have no room, the Sister in law says I'm not welcome as to Her I'm only welcome there on Holidays when Her grown Children are there, I'm currently renting in a place that I need to get out of as My right knee can't climb/descend steps anymore and saving up for a move so that I could get a USDA section 502 Rural Direct Mortgage is quite difficult for Me to do and I'm limited to a maximum mortgage of $60,000.00 and not all houses cost that little and so there's another glass ceiling for Me and others like Me, I also can't buy a burial plot as the least expensive that I could find was $2900 and I'm only allowed to buy one that's valued at $1500 and instead of being able to save up like $10,000.00 for down payment on a car or a house or for some expensive repair of insurance deductible, I'm still limited to $2,000.00 in savings as has been the case since 1989. Right now I'm about to run out of tea, chicken bologna, margarine, powdered eggs, etc. I've already run out of vegetables and I have one hamburger patty left in the freezer with 3 loafs of cheap bread and I'm like almost always, broke. My cat Grace at least has enough food and supplies for a few months as She's My only company. Some might ask, If You don't have enough money, why not apply for Food Stamps? If one lives in CA and gets SSI(Supplemental Security Income), One does not get Food Stamps cause of a dispute between the state of CA and the USDA and SSA who does what the USDA says, So in CA the USDA says No SSI recipient will get any Food Stamps. I can't physically be with the 99% movement, as I just can't make the Federal money and My CA State money($156.40 or $830.40 total, Sure I'll get a $25 a month COLA for 2012 on Dec 30th 2011, but that's only 3.6% of $674.00, not 100%, Oh wow, a pittance from our cruel overlords) go that far...

seems like you could do sedentary work....you have the time to read this blog and then rant about not receiving enough free money.

Lets see I guess having incurable concentration problems(short term memory is effected) in conjunction with an under performing thyroid is imaginary then? I was told by those in Private Industry to not bother as I'd get no where fast as they can and will hire a non disabled Younger person who's more qualified than Me and since I only have a GED there really isn't any job that I can do anymore(I'm 51yrs old, reading and responding only proves I'm intelligent, so's a 10yr old, big deal), But then since Yer not an MD be degree or license, You aren't qualified and last I looked impersonating a Doctor is a crime and I doubt Yer doing that, besides I said It was not an adequate amount, If You were disabled, You could apply, unless You'd rather do Seppuku instead of apply, I believe the law says SSI must be adequate. I'm just saying that SSI needs a readjustment and that the COLAs have failed to keep up in the real world, I'm essentially a ward of the court/congress...

10 seconds on craigslist.org found a room for rent that is only $385 per month in LA. Sure, it may not be where you want to live, but it's a place. SSI was not meant to provide a comfortable standard of living, it's meant to keep you afloat.

Also I think what Yer referring to is the stereotype known as the Truly Disabled, which does not exist and is a bigoted idea.

Oh and Mr Anonymous, I'm calling You out, I at least put up My first name, You hide like a cowardly troglodyte in the dark.

I have a Cat She most likely wouldn't be accepted and lots of furniture to move and no money, all My relatives are in Victorville CA, Not in Los Angeles.

well, since the apt. I found is only one room...you can sell your furniture. Also, getting rid of your cat will reduce your monthly expenses (food, litter, vet).

Also, here's a closer room for rent

Ok, You logged in, Good, I looked on the website Your link was to and most of the ads there are by Women and Women usually prefer Female roommates and not Men and most are very expensive. That being said My Cat is My best friend and immediate family as I adopted Her and I gave My word that I'd support Her and I'm emotionally attached to Her, Oh and Vet? I don't have any Vet bills, As She stays inside where She gets good food and water and is not liable to be run over which I fear a lot, remember I have anxiety problems, losing Her in an unnatural way or Her just disappearing is a few of them, She used to be a stray for a while as She was abandoned early on before She was a stray as She'd been fixed before I got Her from the Shelter in Apple Valley CA and being a Black/White Cat She is vulnerable to getting run over or even stolen or disliked cause She's a black cat(some people do fear black cats, a phobia), heck I can't see Her in the dark unless I have a flashlight or I stumble over Her and I've done so a few times, I can't do that to Her.

Barstow apartment $400 moving costs $450.00 and I know that as It's a quote from a mover as I was going to move at one time when I had the money, I have a car as It gives Me the ability to go see My relatives, buy food and go to a Doctor or If I had money the Dentist.
