Would love to hear an alternative that wouldn't increase debt and provide decent service. It's simply not possible and the program is a nightmare to administer. SSA does not have the time or resources to devot to looking over your shoulder and deem if the money is spent correctly.

SSA just launched a rep payee pro bono pilot in Maryland. As one way to meet the need for suitable rep payees, SSA is exploring the potential for partnership with the legal community by seeking interested attorneys to serve as rep payees on a pro bono basis.

To volunteer, interested attorneys in Maryland can go to http://www.socialsecurity.gov/payee/probonopilot.htm and complete a registration form or send a note to probonopilot@ssa.gov for more information.
