Time To Give Paul Ryan Heartburn

President Obama says it's time in increase Social Security. Hillary Clinton has said the same. What will Donald Trump say? What will other Republicans running for office say?

I recall in the infancy of his run Trump said he wouldn't touch Social Security, not that he meant anything he said then.

Bernie Sanders has been calling to expand Social Security throughout his revolutionary campaign.

Bernie actually says what he means and means what he says.

What are you (not someone else) willing to pay? How much of your income and assets do you want to give to others? How many people really believe that the next generation will thank them for taking money now that the next generation will be expected to pay back?

I voted for Obama and believe he has done well given the republican congress. But he is way late to this game and did nothing, absolutely nothing for SSA, never mind SSA disability. He has let the agency rot like a fish. If he is going to shill for Hilary or Bernie, he has nothing to say for his non actions. It is hypocritical. The agency is in shambles.

I would be willing to give more towards social security. I make a good living and try to give back where I can. I know I am not the only one. It is also true that there are also more people like 2:09, but mores the pity for them.If you make over 118K you should be willing to give more in SS taxes to help support those that were not as lucky in their earning ability. Sure, life is what you make of it but sometimes life only gives you crap to work with.

A small FICA increase now can help keep SSA solvent. The real goal, however, should be to grow the economy! We need more good, affordable American products!

He has ignored the entire agency for his whole presidency, the place is sinking like the Titanic. If you only could see the inside. It is a shame when people depend on a place so much and they have allowed it to crumble to a point where help cannot be given because of lack of leadership/money/people. Damn shame.

What I do not understand is why Obama allowed Colvin to continue to run the Agency after he was briefed about wrongdoing in the Agency and she was not confirmed back in December 2014. The only thing he did was not renominate her. Why in the world did he do this and ignore the Agency given the knowledge he had then.

Every president gets briefed on "wrongdoing" in SSA's management. Complaints about Astrue were legend and incessant. Obama's lack of SSA oversight was non specific. The agency has not been a political priority. He could still do something other than make speeches for Hillary. Perhaps she will do something.

After having dealing with the SSA for myself and others for many many years, I say that the SSA is incompetent as it gets but also with a cavalier attitude from its employees. It is as if we owe them something and we are annoying them with our presence. I have not seen consistency at all. It reminds me of working for a federal contractor called kaiser, the HMO. where the business of the day has nothing to do with taking care of those that in come the door, those that are paying for the salaries of the employees and management. Nobody wants or cares to do their job. Talk to 100 people and you get 100 different answers and none of them amount to anything, just keeping one from getting any resolve.
This agency needs a good housecleaning, starting from the top.
I too am greatly disappointed with president Obama's approach with the SSA. Now I know I'm a nobody, but I wrote to him many times about the glaring incompetence resulting in fraud. The result of those written notes has been Nada, Zero, Nothing. But then again, the SSA has the same ineptitude and attitude as many other agencies and again, this has been going on for far too long and definitely sooner than later.

Social Security benefits are good for society as a whole. Because my grandparents had worked/contributed and then received benefits, my parents didn't have to support them. Because my parents had worked/contributed and then received benefits, I didn't have to support my parents while trying to also raise my family. Because I have worked/contributed and will get social security, my kids won't have to support me while they are trying to establish their own households.
Even before I get a dime of social security retirement, I benefit greatly from social security. And that is not even mentioning the insurance aspects of social security survivors, disability, and auxiliary coverage.
It's not "us vs. them" -- we are a society and must look out for each other.
One thing that will help FICA tax revenues is improved jobs, but another thing that will help is a path to legal immigration so those folks can pay taxes.

@ 2:09 p.m.

What are you (not someone else) willing to pay? How much of your income and assets do you want to give to others?

Answer: Enough to where I'm not tripping over homeless people when I walk through our cities. Enough so that I don't have to keep reading about how many millions of Americans cannot even get access to sufficient food or shelter. Enough so basic medical care and a decent education are genuinely available to even to the poor. Enough so that people with disabilities are not treated like second-class disposable citizens. Yes, I'm willing to pay more for that.

You need a heart to get heartburn. Ryan's strident positions attacking assistance for the poor and less fortunate make him the Grinch of the Congress.

Let's not forget that the only tax cut Obama gave any of us was a 1% cut on our SSA tax. How stupid was that? That is certainly how to handle an Agency/fund that is in the tanks... He had a Democrat Senate and House to start with, he could have done anything he wanted to and he did. Thank you failure Obamacare....
