"Billy With Social Security"

From The Gazette of Colorado Springs:
Lately I've heard from a half a dozen people who have gotten phone calls from "Billy with Social Security." ... We can tell you "Billy" is not an employee of the Social Security Administration. ... They say that Billy claimed he could help them get disability payments from Social Security if they would share some of their personal information with him. ...
According to the Office of the Inspector General, which prevents and detects fraud in the Social Security Administration, they hear about crooks impersonating their employees. I'm told the intent may be to steal your identity or raid your bank account. They may ask for your Social Security number, date of birth, your mother's maiden name, or your bank account information. Those should be red flags. Don't give a stranger those details. ...

I am SA-27. As many of you know, I submitted an application for OPM DR, which requires one to apply for SSA Disability.

I received a call from, "Billy," as well. I am no where near the State of Colorado. I recall the phone number came in on my caller ID as my local area code with the name of a town about 50 miles from where I live.

As an attorney, phone telemarketers and scammers do not get far with me. "Billy" sounded immature and was unprofessional from the start. I never told him who I was. He asked if I need help applying for SSA Disability. I said, "What.?" He then said, "You have applied for SSA Disability, haven't you?" I said, "No," and hung up. I thought it was a prank call, and did not believe it was necessary to report it to anyone. However, the call gave me an eerie feeling because I wondered how this guy ever got my phone number, or knew I had submitted an SSA Disability application in the first place? Thus, I can confirm this scam appears to be nationwide. I received this call about 2 weeks ago.

How do you make Billy stop calling? I've gotten probably close to 100 calls from him, I've blocked probably close to two dozen phone numbers and he just keeps calling me from new numbers.

A client of mine recently got a call from the same place. Not "Billy" specifically or the same phone number (it was local) but the bogus email address that callers are told to write to (customerservicenow2016@gmail.com) is the same as in the article. My client was asked a few extremely basic questions (nothing too identifying, just "are you currently working?", "do you have physical or mental problems?", age, etc.) and then placed on hold for literally a half hour. Someone then abruptly got back on the line and told her she "didn't qualify". which is pretty surprising since she has a very strong claim.

i still don't know what to make of the call or know what to tell her beyond to watch out for future callers and to keep an eye on her credit. i don't really get the impression that these calls have anything to do with disability at all. they seem like a more general scam. but what exactly is beyond me.

This number called me 5 times in a period of 4 minutes. By the last time, I finally answered. He said his name was Jeremy calling regarding an employment inquiry I had made online and that it was a recorded line. He then asked how I was. I didn't respond right away and he hung up. I then called the number back from a landline and it's a generic message, saying "Thank you for calling customer service," but does not say the name of the business. It gives 2 options; one option is to enter your number to be put on the do not call list, and the other option is to be connected with a representative. If you choose to speak to a representative, it says all reps are busy now and to email them at customerservicenow2016@gmail.com. I have received several spam phone calls in the last few weeks that, if I answer, have said I won a free cruise, they want to discuss my medical reimbursement from a medical claim, they want to discuss student loans, want to discuss job offers, etc., and they always want me to confirm my name. I haven't allowed them to get far enough into a call to ask me for any other personal information, but all of these calls, from multiple numbers, are many times the exact same voice but say their name is different, and if I call the numbers back, I get the same message as what I just got with this one, including that exact same email listed above. Also, by later at night or the next day, those numbers are usually disabled and no longer in service. One day, I messed with the caller, answering everytime he called, and I acted stupid and difficult, to a point that he hung up on me everytime, and by the last time he called me that day, he proved (through his frustration) to me that he was indeed the same caller because when he asked for me by my name, I said, "Who?" & he repeated my name, and then I said "Who are you?" and he said "I'm your f@#$ing father!" and then continued the conversation in a very vulgar manner, clearly trying to upset me because I had messed with him so much. They also don't seem to call on weekends. Other numbers associated to this number/email are: (248)537-0764, (989)244-7352, (810)734-6044, (830)490-0103, (989)244-7334, (615)640-1038, (210)526-6628, +41 54 491 58 20, (973)404-7975, (718)618-5301, (430)540-7009, (323)736-2501, (542)846-3849, (315)322-9822, (323)736-2501, (989)244-7367, (857)304-9018, (786)577-6669, (258)796-5871, (916)589-8603, (245)574-5874, (542)846-3849, (720)450-9636, (206)596-0657, (315)457-2018, (334)321-9212, (301)307-1761, (334)600-2390, (775)684-0093, (458)203-1327, (660)951-6630, (775)384-0093, (213)298-3759, (424)392-8418

I get these calls every day from different numbers. Like others have said, it's anything from a job seeker site, to disability, to a free cruise and anything in between. The same customerservicenow2016 gmail account is always associated. I usually get "Joe" who changed his name to "Jared" the very same day. Or I get a woman who changes her name here and there as well. These people are despicable and need to rot in prison.

Joe called me I said I think I hear you but where are you going with the line went dead . I called it back no one available to take your call. Hmmm

Yes but how do we all band together and get them caught start a web site maybe. ?

I can’t keep up with the number of times they’ve called me. I do recall that one day they called more that 30 times! Harassment for sure! I wish I knew how they got my number, because that’s who is ultimately at fault. I’m on the verge of changing my number.

May death fall without mercy upon these pieces of crap. If I knew where they lived I would gather a large group of angry, frustrated annoyed people to find them and we would slowly torture them until they begged for forgiveness.

Whatever your area code is you start getting calls all day long. At first I was nice saying I'm on do not call. One called me from DC saying I won a grant. I laughed he said why are you laughing. I said it's funny because nobody ever gave me anything he told me F you. Now I answer and tell them for calling they have won an all expense paid trip to Guantanamo bay
One way all meals and transportation included.

These calls are annoying

You can sue these people for $1500 dollars per call. They will usually try to settle for about 1/3 = $500. You just have to get a civil attorney and pay 33%. It's worth it to just put these people out of "business"

A Google user thats who, n I don't like scam crap calling said...

Wow these calls have been happening for some time and apparently still soaring high cause I am from the year 2019 hahaha (sorry Ijust couldn't resist) any who, we all can add an other number associated with this same damn pain in the ass spammer/scammer calls 559-206-8105 I'm from the city of Fresno in California and I received 2 calls and after this thing saying his name was "Joe" and I'm calling from...... They hung up... So I called back I got an answer and they automatically started saying it's slogan or whatever you call that... N-E-ways I asked who's this 5 to 7 seconds later it said "Joe". I said and where am I calling 5 to 7 seconds later it said can you repeat that I couldn't hear you. I said can you hear me now, again 5-7 sec later it said yes. I then said can I be transferred to a real human and not a machine. It said, I'm sorry I don't understand. I said are you a real human or a computer because it sounds more like someone is most likely typing in the response after I say something and then the computer speaks because you take way to long to answer or say anything and a real human answers right after their asked a question. So are you a human or machine. It said oh wow I've never been asked that question, I'll tell you what why do you you write that down and when someone from our education department gives you a call back you can them your question cause I don't want to end up giving you the wrong answer.i said well I just want to know why did you call me and hang up twice. It said I'm sorry what was that I couldn't hear you correctly the call had a bad connection. I said I want to know why you called me and hung up twice and what is the reason for your call. It said oh I just called to verify. I said to verify what, what are you calling to verify and they hung up. I called back but then received the recording about sending what ever questions I had to customerservicenow2016@gmail.com and I called back a few more times but kept getting that same recording.

Received a call from number 303 656-2117, showed a name of Catherine Benoit on my phone, but the robot voice said it was from Grace and could I hear her. Stupidly said "yes". Then the phone went dead. I called the number and was given two options, 1st to list my number on the "do not call List", 2nd- all customer service representatives were busy, send an e-mail to customer service now2016@gmail.com.

Never should have answered because I didn't recognize the name or number.
