Take a listen to this 31 minute podcast interview with Laura Haltzel, a former Associate Conmissioner at Social Security who left the agency over the horrible changes brought about by the Trump Administration. Her testimony about the horrible pressures placed on agency employees is especially striking.
Haltzel should be lauded for her bravery in speaking out. The Trump Administration has dealt with its critics in extraordinary brutal ways.

ReplyDeleteLeland, let’s do some math calculations. Every privacy infraction has a penalty of five years and a $5,000 fine. Do you have that kind of time or money? Are you proud of what you allegedly did? Still waiting for the evidence of the massive fraud, waste and abuse.
ReplyDeleteIf they've violated federal privacy laws, I hope he and the rest of the doge thugs end up bankrupt and serving time in federal prison.
DeleteKudos to Laura. More of the former SESers should come out, namely Michelle King and the RCs who left.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I’m glad they left, but if they don’t go on the record it’s cowardly. Especially Michelle.
Delete@12:06 Oof! Is that true? Haven't about 500 million Social Security numbers been issued? I'm not an attorney, but I advise Leland to set up a Go Fund Me page for his legal defense.
ReplyDeleteRelated to one of the issues Ms. Haltzel mentioned: I needed my wife's 1099 report on her benefits today for filling out our tax return. We either never got it or more likely misplaced it, but hey! not a problem - just get a new one through mySocialSecurity. Or so I thouight. I don't know if it's some change this Dudek implemeted, but when I tried to log in, which I had done with no problem a few days ago, I was prompted to reverify her identity, which now required taking phots of her driver's license and face and reverifying. After many attempts at the driver's license (over and over the photos were rejected for too much glare) we finally got the photos accepted, but had to break for dinner. When I got back on, I was prompted to begin the whole process again. It will have to wait for next weekend. If this new level of unnecessary onerousness has been imposed only to keep up the pretense of eliminating fraud, I am really pissed.
ReplyDeleteThe verification prompt offered the option of going to the post office and getting hte verification done in person. Has anyone tried that? It might have been faster,
@7:52 the 1099 likely was never mailed. We’ve replaced so many 1099s that were sent “online only”. But the people claim they never set up MySSA preferences to only get their notices online. Haven’t talked to one yet that even knew.
ReplyDeleteI listened, and everything she said is spot on. It's disgraceful , the lies, and the damage that Trump and Musk have done to SSA.
ReplyDeletePeople should go on their congresspersons website or call to say we want Social Security benefits and employees protected. The lies, misleading statements, and misinformation that Trump and Musk have put forth, this is immoral and wrong
Very clearly presented - well done. There's a new hero out there.... Hoping that more leaders will speak out!
