From Brett Arends writing for Morningstar:
… I'm not surprised that President Donald Trump and the Social Security Administration put out the latest inspector-general report the day before Thanksgiving, when nobody is paying attention.
It's yet another embarrassment.
The latest 57-page report to Congress details a variety of Social Security frauds that took place under Trump's first administration, only to be caught, stopped and prosecuted ... er ... under Joe Biden.
And it confirms what has long been suspected, and which will come as no surprise to MarketWatch readers: namely that Elon Musk and Trump were talking total nonsense for the first six months of this year, when they were claiming that there was a "huge" amount of fraud in Social Security, including hundreds of thousands of dead people claiming benefits. …
You didn’t get your 5k check yet? They had a sign-up for it at the gas stations with the $2 gas. I got mine along with a free dozen eggs promotion.
ReplyDeleteWe all knew there would not be a trillion dollars in savings. Only MAGA fell for that line. I tell people that scoff at SSA as being infested with fraud how difficult it is to get on SSDI and especially SSI. It's not an "overnight" process like some believe. Honestly, most people are not educated on how the benefits work. Most are just concerned with retirement benefits UNLESS they become disabled. It's incredibly difficult to get on SSA's programs and can take a year or more sometimes. Some believe me, some think one can just hop right on the program in a week and start getting a check. It would be incredibly hard for someone to fraudulently collect SSDI and SSI benefits with all the medical records required and the whole adjudication process. A lot of the fraud is from within. We know that. Is there fraud and abuse? Yes...is it billions or trillions? No.
ReplyDeleteThis administration has been known to lie.
ReplyDeletePresident Donald Trump dubbed himself “the affordability president” in a Saturday morning social media rant that featured some fuzzy math in an attempt to dismiss widespread economic concerns and fuel his claims that his efforts would help Republicans win the 2026 midterms.
“Because I have invoked FAVORED NATIONS STATUS FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, DRUG PRICES ARE FALLING AT LEVELS NEVER SEEN BEFORE, 500%, 600%, 700%, and more,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
So true…
DeleteLeavitt made things worse for herself when she made a comment to reporters about all “the fake news that we see pumped out of this building on a day to day basis.”
Considering that Trump is a habitual liar, many people on social media found Leavitt’s rant against “fake news” dripping with irony.
We all know prior to doge that
ReplyDeleteSSA was for the most part well managed whether we agreed 100% with the executives or not. There was never any widespread waste, fraud or abuse. Go away and let us go back to serving the public like we always do!
With all due respect for everyone still there trying to deliver on SSA's mission, the agency hasn't been well run since Michael Astrue left the building. Under Berryhill, Colvin, and Saul it was run like a sorority or friends and family op, and under Kijakazi it was run into the ground. Arguably, O'Malley was on the right track but didn't have time to make a dent. The biggest failure of the Obama years was the utter neglect of SSA and appointment of a permanent Commissioner.
DeleteAmen!!
