Gambling With Social Security Money

      From WTRF:

A study has shown that on days when Social Security pays, gambling rates go up.

A West Virginia University doctoral student, Matt Mullis, has found concerning patterns in West Virginia’s gambling data.

One finding shows that senior citizens may be spending most of their Social Security income on gambling. …

     Most?

  1. This doctoral study might be accurate since it would explain the 🤡 running this country but I draw the line on most. The public is just trying to survive but some have gambling issues.

    1. Not everything is tied to politics. I'm sure the same patterns were present under every administration.

  2. This is why pensions are better than lump sum savings accounts. Imagine giving everyone $500K instead of monthly payments. Casino royale, baby!

  3. I don’t need the government telling me what to do with my money. SS is my fun money. If I want to spend it on gambling, hookers and booze, that’s my business. Nobody tells you how to spend your paychecks.

  4. Did they differentiate between recreational gambling and those trying tp pay rent with winnings because their benefits check is insufficient?

    1. If you click the link, LITERALLY the first word on the story is "News". (Under all the ad's that is).

  6. I don't even half enough left over after household bills to go to a casino! I have to eat too! I'm certainly not gonna gamble away what little I have left. It's a tough world on Social Security! Tougher, I am sure, if one just throws it away on lotto tickets and casinos!

  7. Grocery stores also are busier; gas stations are busier; fast food joints are busier; in the 70's, 80's, when the Title II checks were issues on the 3rd, and SSI checks on the 1st, every commercial establishment did a booming business the following 3 - 5 days.
...including other places: restaurants, bars, casinos.
One of the reasons our society encouraged its government to spread the issuance of payments 4 times per month, rather than just once per month.
