From Newsweek:
… In a survey from the Cato Institute, 89 percent of Americans over age 65 said Social Security benefits should be protected even if it meant higher taxes for younger workers.
This sparked conservative backlash on social media.
“Just as it isn’t boomers’s fault that politicians stole their social security — or that leftists of all generations voted for the pols who did it — it’s not the responsibility of the generations that follow to make up for it by giving up more of our incomes,” conservative radio host Dana Loesch wrote on X.
Political commentator Matt Walsh wrote: “Stealing from young families to pay much higher net worth Boomers is immoral and ridiculous. Young families already have to deal with an economy where everything is exponentially more expensive than it was for Boomers at the same age. Older people clamoring to raise taxes on the young, on top of it all, is just perverse.” …

Can someone explain how the constant revenue shortfalls caused republicans’ repeated tax cuts to the rich are the fault of “leftists”?
ReplyDeleteAnd don’t fall for this trash, young people. The democrats don’t want to raise your taxes. They want to make the rich pay their fair share again. Oh, and you aren’t the rich. I promise. So please don’t make that stupid mistake either.
Just eliminate the taxmax already. Nearly all boomers and younger workers would experience NO tax increase. In fact, only the top 6% of earners would pay more overall and they can certainly afford it.
ReplyDeleteWhat they seem to miss (or intentionally ignore) is that any cuts to Social Security wouldn't be for current retirees, they'll be for future ones - i.e., today's young people. So the idea that cutting Social Security is good for young people is laughable.
ReplyDeleteRight wingers live in their Ayn Randian Laisseiz Fairyland.
ReplyDeleteTwo things can be true at once: Social Security needs to bring in more tax revenue and it is also immoral to raise taxes on average working families who are already struggling with high housing, grocery, vehicle, gas, and general every day price increase.
ReplyDeleteEliminate the FICA earnings cap and make the rich pay their fair share.
It's difficult to blame an earlier generation for a lower birth rate for later generations.
