They punched the coding on an SSA-101, signed off on twice (once by the CR and once by the CA) and then typed it all again. Why? Any discrepancies excepted and you had to start all over. Hey! It was as high as low tech ever got! I heard that the Smithsonian has one of the old machines. It was one of the first computing devices designed just after WWII by the infant IBM corporation on a contract from SSA. Who says govt can't do anything right?
