Nobel Economics Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz, quoted in Mother Jones: "For somewhere between a half and quarter of the cost of the war in Iraq you could have fixed all the problems associated with Social Security for the next 75 years and still have had a lot left over."
Granted the money spent in Iraq could have been used on other things, but Bush can't spend one penny that Congress doesn't authorize. In the 2006 election the Democrats were voted in mostly because of Bush and the war, but after taking over they continue to send him whatever he wants.
ReplyDeletePlus it's easy after the fact to say money could have been put to better use, but where was this guy when Paul Wolfowitz claimed that the war would pay for itself with oil revenue.
