Social Security is now going national with the program to allow claimants without bank accounts to receive their benefits by direct deposit to an account they can access through a debit card. Comerica Bank is managing the program. To sign up for this, a claimant is supposed to call Comerica, a detail which I find mildly jarring.
"Within the Comerica Bank network, cardholders can make one free ATM cash withdrawal per payment received."
ReplyDeleteI guess this is where Comerica Bank will make their money and people get screwed.
People will withdraw all of their money on check day, lose it or have it stolen, then line up at the SSA office trying to get it replaced--"sorry, can't help you" will make SSA even more popular.
