OPM Stops Taking ALJ Applications

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) started taking applications for Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) positions on Wednesday, July 30. The announcement said that they would take applications only until midnight of the day upon which they received the 600th application. It only too about a day and a half for them to get to 600. They stopped taking applications last night.

According to the American Bar Association, there were 1,116, 967 licensed attorneys in June of 2006. The number rose to 1,128,729 by the end of 2006, and grew to 1,143,358 by the end of 2007.

So not much of a surprise that they received 600 in 1.5 days.

  2. They probably received many more than 600 applications. By the terms of the announcement, they were required to keep it open until midnight on the day they received 600 applications. It is entirely possible they received 1000 or more by the time the clock struck midnight.
