  2. As have many other presidents. He's visiting a veteran's cemetery in Illinois. What's your point?

  3. Good to see he is doing something besides babbling about LeBron James and other meaningless matters.

  4. Obama -- rather than follow decades of presidential tradition -- will visit the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery just 50 miles South of Chicago, conveniently close to where he will vacation.

President Barack Obama's Memorial Day address at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood was just getting started today when lightning and heavy, gusting rains forced the cancellation of the proceedings.

Very nice weather in DC today.

  5. MANY presidents (including George W. Bush) have missed the ceremony at Arlington on Memorial Day. Get your facts straight, Anonymous #4.

  6. From the Washington Post:

Obama is not the first president to miss the Arlington ceremony. Ronald Reagan spoke at West Point one year, and went to his California ranch another year. George H.W. Bush, a war veteran, did not go at all. Bill Clinton, who did not serve in Vietnam and had a rocky time with the military, went to Arlington all eight years, and George W. Bush, who also avoided combat service in Vietnam, attended from 2003 onward.
