It appears that the trend began to turn upward about 10 years ago as the babyboomers started hitting their 50's, and accelerated when the economy went in the tank. Few, if any, of those will ever return to the workforce, especially with a stagnant economy for the foreseeable future. Employers aren't going to hire older workers with disabilities and have to accomodate them when there will be so many healthy workers to choose from.
