Professor Mark Wilson has resigned from the Occupational Information Development Advisory Panel (OIDAP). Click twice on the thumbnail to read his letter of resignation. Note that he says that "I no longer feel that the management of this project can bring about the occupational information system that the agency and the country needs and that the panel envisioned."
Hopefully this will help SSA understand that this thing is NOT working right. This is not the first person to leave, and it won't be the last. SSA, please take a closer look at what you really want and make sure the committee really understands that. So far their difficult work has not been a very practical approach to what SSA truly needs in the disability program. Get the Dept of Labor to help you improve the existing DOT, don't try to replace it entirely. The DOT, albeit outdated, is still very relevant and accurate in today's job market. There may some current jobs are not found in the DOT, but there are very very close matches.
ReplyDeleteCan SSA develop a rule that just allows examiners to find that a DOT entry occupationally "equals" the job duties of one's past work, much like they have medically "equals" listing level severity for the medial portions?
ReplyDeleteSSA needs to go back to DOL and ask for help; there is no way that it can duplicate what DOL does or has.
