Although we can’t predict what Hurricane Irene will do, forecasters believe that it has the potential to cause significant flooding, property damage, and loss of life.
In consultation with headquarters and ODAR, our Regional Commissioners have closed offices based on recommendations from State and local officials, because of mandatory evacuations, and as unique circumstances dictate. I know you realize that this weather event is fluid. We have a number of employees in headquarters and regional offices working to ensure that we stay up-to-date on Irene’s path and scale to position us to keep you and visitors to our offices safe. You can find information about office closings and FEMA links on our website at www.socialsecurity.gov/emergency. To find out whether you should report to work on Monday, please follow the usual weather related notification processes.
I urge those of you who may be in the path of Hurricane Irene to take safety and preparedness information seriously. Please batten down the hatches and protect your loved ones.
A bit wimpy- I must say.
