Social Security Offices To Be Closed To Public On Friday

Social Security has just announced via its Twitter feed that its offices will be closed to the public on Friday. I'm not aware of any prior announcement. In recent years, Social Security has completely closed its offices on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That wasn't done this year, probably because of the government shutdown in October.

  1. Actually, this is the new trend. We are closed to the public, but employees can still work to catch up on backlogs. This was the policy last year also. I believe 2011 was the only year we were given the day off. (a small consolation to not getting COLA)

  2. I love how SSA employees feel the need to vent so much here about how they didn't get a COLA or how they are having hiring freezes and more work dumped on them. Its called LIFE. Businesses deal with ups and downs all the time. You know how employees in the real world deal with not liking their jobs? They find another job that makes them happy.

Instead of just bitching and moaning, how about you try to find a job you like to do.

Yes, private sector employees never, ever bitch and moan about wages and workloads. A better life is just a new job away...

Wow, was my earlier post taken way out of context! I was merely correcting what CTH posted.

I love my job. I have a chance to make a difference in someboby's life every single day at work.

  5. To be clear, only field offices are closed to the public on Friday. ODAR offices are open and scheduled hearings will proceed.

  6. They only told us last week. Almost nobody is working Friday.

  7. Some people who were already approved for Friday leave will be coming in still. I will be going from the day off to doing a full day because I will be one of a handful of people in the office, which means no interruptions while clearing old work out! So much better than competing with crowds, too.
