A Nashville television station is reporting on the huge backlogs and long waiting times to get a hearing on a Social Security disability claim. Expect many more similar reports. The backlogs are approaching record levels.
Thank Heaven Astrue is gone. He did his very best to remove any legal professionalism from ODAR. If only he had taken Sklar with him. If Carolyn Colvin had any sense, she'd show Sklar, Bice and most, if not all, of the ROCALJ's the door. The proper way to reduce the backlog is with appropriate hiring of truly qualified ALJ's, not Agency decision writers who blindly follow fickle Agency managers, and hire enough of them to do a proper, professional job -- it would save money in the long run.
It's not approaching a record...it's setting new ones.
ReplyDeleteAstrue is gone. The backlog is back. Astrue had a single-minded determination to reduce the backlog. That determination left the building when he did.
ReplyDeleteThis was Las Vegas, not Nashville
