Well, it looks like we are on the right track with the number of disabled workers.
However, the increase in the number of retired workers is very, very troubling.
It looks like retirement is the new gravy train for the unwashed masses. With the crackdown on disability, they have just moved their con into a different pot of money.
Hopefully, Congress can propose legislation to stop this growing gaping wound in the financial health of our once great nation.
Ther eis no wound. The Baby Boomers ar reaching retirement age by the droves and will continue to for the next 10 years. There is no need to apply for disability when you are already eligible for retirement benefits. In case you haven't noticed, the same thing has happened in the unemployment. The unemployment rate seem to have gone down. Due to great moves by our President? No, simple retirement for the Baby Boomers explains a lot of it. Further, retirement is not the new gravytrained for the unwashed masses. It is the well deserved reward for 40-45 years of hard work. It is what they have contributed into during those work years. It is what was promised to them when they began working in the 60's. If Congress needs to do anything, it is to shut down the growing entitlement/welfare system in this country. Those drawing retirment have earned it and deserve it. Until our Great Nation inspires anotehr bunch of hard workers like the Baby Boomers, it will cease to be a Great Nation.
Except that those taking early SS Retirement are ALSO filing for Disability in order to get the "bump up" to full retirement benefits. Can anyone say GRIDS????
Great people, people who still want to live, do not "retire".
The great jurists of this nation have long led by example in this regard.
Look only to Antonin Scalia.
Born in 1936, now in his late 70;s he continues to fulfill his federal commission to administer justice through the highest court in the land.
Does he seek "retirement"? To spend his days in idleness and decadence, draining the public coffers as the very infrastructure of the nation rusts and falls into ruin?
No.
He knows that life is for the living. You cannot simply lay down your plowshare because the minor inconveniences of age and wear begin to weigh upon you.
His words still thunder from the bench, as they have for decades.
Yeah, well a lot of our disabled claimants would love to sit around and pontificate and get paid what the Justices get if, they had the education and political pull to do it. Why do you think there are so many ALJ's in the gray hair sector still working?
I'm not sure if the author(s) of 9:19 and 12:22 were actually trolled by the very weak trolling preceding their comments or if the author(s) of 9:19 and 12:22 is/are in fact (an) excellent counter troll(s) who provoked 10:23 into posting.
The initial 9:07 post was mostly an exercise in "What is one way in which the data in this chart to incoherently and illogically blame a portion of the population for something that sounds somewhat fraud-ish or irresponsible?"
The Baby Boomer counter-post just got me thinking about people who generally don't retire, which immediately led me to the lifetime tenure of the federal judiciary.
The general purpose of 10:23 was more of an opportunity to showcase my phrase "his words still thunder from the bench" in the context of Justice Scalia.
The second post took more work than the first post, since I had to use wikipedia to find out the birth year of Justice Scalia.
@ 9:19 I hope yer joking, Congressional Republicans won't extend UI that people have paid into when there are more job seekers, than jobs, so if people can they apply for SNAP or something else, it's not a crime, though it seems like some will trash people who are down, people get SSDI and/or SSI or SS and/or SSI or just SSI by itself, I get SSI by itself, I sure didn't ask to be disabled, but it does happen, bodies break down and I was never rich or even well off, Repubs/baggers like to say there is massive fraud and do so without any facts from independent studies to prove differently, think tanks are propaganda mills designed to demonize a part of the population and then there is Article 1 Section 8 of the US Constitution, which mentions the US Government is to support the General Welfare and that has been there since 1789, so the USA has always been a Welfare State. And Taxes are not theft...
{Quote} Article 1 - The Legislative Branch Section 8 - Powers of Congress
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and General Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 To borrow money on the credit of the United States;{/Quote}
By smoking more, we can make sure that people die sooner and save money from the retirement fund and, for those who will die young, from the disability fund also.
That's already been done. Although now it's shifted from pushing tobacco to pushing highly processed foods. Similar results, earlier deaths, but not all the controversy. I mean Oreos will kill you just as quickly as smoking, maybe even sooner!

9:07 - Best I've read this year!
ReplyDeleteThough I might have chosen Justice Thomas, for the oddity of saying he thunders from the bench. :)

ReplyDeletelol. Priceless.
I think 9:07 was written by Billll O'Reilly.
