From an Emergency Message that the Social Security Administration has released to its staff:
... On December 1, 2015, approximately 18,773 recipients did not receive their recurring monthly SSI payments. After researching the issue, the agency discovered a systems coding issue that prevented the release of the payments. The payments were correctly annotated on the Supplemental Security Income Master Record (SSR), but were not included in the payment files sent to Treasury for processing....
Inform recipients that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is aware of the issue and working to re-release the payments. Electronic payments should be deposited on 12/03/2015. Paper checks will take about 5 to 7 business days. Refer the recipient to his/her servicing field office for further assistance for dire need situations....
Why didnt Social Security Administration notifiy the public via press release that this happened. Are they just gonna sit on this info.and if it wasnt in fact corrected on Dec 3.as this site stated then what?
ReplyDeleteI would suppose it's because everyone was not affected. For those that were affected, procedures were in place to issue missing payments without waiting. Seems reasonable.
DeleteBecause an error that affects 18700 checks represents 0.007% of all SSI recipients. It would create huge problems and additional work for the agency to notify the 99.993% of beneficiaries plus the general public about a problem that doesn't affect them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like them. My husband ssi has from time to time not been deposited in my bank account same account for years I did get it in the mail but had to call and make sure and yell at them and had them say that I must have not got the bank account information in time amnd then when I told them no change in the info they changed their tune but it still shouldn't happen.
