Same story, different characters. I remember being shocked years ago when a guy I dealt with frequently at the field office was arrested for the same thing. It does not happen frequently but I'm no longer shocked when it does.
ReplyDeleteThe big shock in this case, if the charges are true, is that this guy put his job and freedom at risk for $6000!
Perhaps SSA should do what some private companies do...install and keystroke logger on every computer and do random audits for fraud or unauthorized access.
The keystroke loggers have been in place for years yet people still do this stuff.
DeleteEven better, do what worker's comp does, hire investigators to check on the claimant's a couple3 of days.. And the backlog goes way down..
ReplyDelete11:56 what does that have to do with a SSA rep committing fraud?
ReplyDeleteWow for only $6000.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was with the SSA, I spent several years as an EEO counselor, handling employee complaints of discrimination by supervisors.
ReplyDeleteOne case I handled was at a PSC and the complainant was a BA. Rather than discrimination, I saw a situation in which supervisors had gone out of their way to give 2nd & 3rd chances to an employee who wd call to say he'd be late for work as he had a flat tire & then show up three days later w/out having called in again to explain his absence, etc., etc.
One day when I showed up to talk to him, his desk was clear & I was told that he'd been arrested that morning. Turned out that when he handled death cases, he wd continue the benefits rather than stopping them and direct the $$$ to bank accts that he'd set up. When he directed $$$ to a relative's bank acct, the relative contacted the police & the FBI. He'd diverted over $40K.
I was fascinated by the irony of the situation.

Nothing at all but since the work fraud was mentioned, it seemed appropriate for the 11:56 to talk about claimants committing fraud. Next it will be the Claimant Representatives committing fraud. When you hate, facts make little difference.
This fraud was discovered due to a review management does on computer selected cases-in other words the system worked
