Social Security's Electronic Records Express (ERE) system is down. It's been down since sometime yesterday. ERE allows attorneys access to their clients' electronic files at Social Security. Attorneys can upload new medical records via ERE. This may be the longest period of ERE downtime I can remember.
Does anyone have any idea how much longer this will go on? Is it just those of us on the outside who are affected or does this affect Social Security employees as well? If this isn't affecting agency employees I wonder whether higher agency management is even aware of the problem. It's certainly becoming a big deal in my office.
Yesterday we had a hearing, the ALJ was late 15 minutes and there was some mention of technical difficulties. That was unusual, and I would bet it was related. This was within 5 minutes of us experiencing difficulties with ERE.
ReplyDeleteThe national call center is actually pretty responsive, so I would presume they are aware of the issues.
I was able to access files and status sheets this morning around 8:45 and 9:30.

ReplyDeleteIf you delete cookies from your browser you can probably get ERE access.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a browser cache problem. It's system wide. Garbled text, 500 errors, html rendering on pages, and broken links.
Delete@914 I've been mashing buttons on my fax machine all day and still can't get it to show me the exhibits in a file. You know since ODAR refuses to burn discs anymore or generally do anything helpful. The fax machine will not show my case status report. Or allow me to see the decision in a case where ODAR informed me that it issued a decision for a homeless client with cancer but won't tell me if it's favorable or not because they "can't give that information over the phone." What's the fax number for that? No worries, I'll just send my carrier pigeon.

I am amazed at the incompetency of reps when it comes to IT. IF you are doing your job properly you have a recent copy of the ERE File. You should update it on a regular basis after submitting new information. If you are waiting to the last minute to submit, that is your fault. An interruption in ERE system should have very limited effect on the claims you have. NEVER once has an ERE problem caused me ANY difficulty in handling a claim. NOT ONCE. Do not blame the system for your failure to institute best practices that ensure you have current data to work with. Act like the professionals you are supposed to be.

ReplyDeleteGiven that to run a financially successful practice, especially in this age of backlogs, delayed rep payments, lack of adjustments to rep payments for inflation, denial after denial of even solid grids/listing level cases, one is required to operate cases in bulk...
Have you thought through the practicalities of continuously updating ERE files for hundreds of cases at a firm, or dozens of cases as a private/small-time practitioner?
Because, if you have, and still stand by your comment, then congratulations! You are clearly better than everyone else in the business and we should all just give up, right? Or, maybe, just MAYBE, it would be worthwhile to consider that some of us would like to practice this area of law and have a life outside of work as well, with the same going for our employees.
