She Was Only Kidding

From some television station that wants to be known as "TV6":
A 50-year-old woman may be facing criminal charges after threatening to blow up the Social Security Administration building in Escanaba [MI], according to Escanaba Public Safety. The woman told police she was kidding but that she was upset with a disputed benefit issue.
I guess she should get off. All it takes for Donald Trump to get out of a jam he's created by saying something stupid or insulting or criminal is to say that he was just kidding.

  1. Had a similar thing happen to me some years ago. My assistant rings through and says someone from the Dept of Homeland Security from Washington DC was on the line (that's a call that you take!) The man tells me that a client of mine was at the local Social Security office and threatened to blow up my office. Because the threat was made at a federal office, it made its way to DC. I asked him if he arrested the individual. He said no because the threat was made against me and not the Social Security office. I had won this client's case - he was upset with his monthly amount and blamed me. I had to call the local police to make a report. Scary stuff, especially with what's happening in TX now.

  2. Charles, that's not really fair. In this land of free speech, how does one "say something...criminal?" You know, apart from speech intended to incite actual physical violence? To my knowledge, and in spite of his tendency to run off at the mouth, the President has never uttered that type of speech. You're skirting perilously close to the "snowflake" line.

  3. If you say that you assaulted someone, that's "saying something criminal". It's called a statement against interest or, in other words, a confession. Just one example.

telling the crowd at a rally to "knock the crap out of" someone is pretty much the definition of inciting actual physical violence...

I don't think the lady in the post should go to jail, but I think anger management classes and a few years' ban on visiting SSA offices would be appropriate.

  5. Really 11:28?

The President has actually encouraged people at his rallies to physically assault protestors. Remember when he said he would pay the legal fees? Or does that not satisfy your "speech intended to incite actual physical violence" definition?

  6. STOP RIDICULING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! I am not "kidding"...oh, and by the way didn't Madonna threaten to blow up the White House.

  7. @5:10

Why should he? Also, Madonna said she thought about committing an act of violence (not a crime) whereas Trump instructed others should commit an act of violence on his behalf (is a crime).
