From Media Matters:
Before joining President Donald Trump's administration [as Acting Associate Commissioner at the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Office of Strategic and Digital Communications], right-wing commentator Robert W. Patterson argued against contraceptives because “condom use robs” women of the “remarkable chemicals” in semen; said married women in the workplace have undermined society; and suggested that homosexuality is a mental disorder and sexual orientation can be forcibly changed. ...There's a lot more detail in the Media Matters piece. Patterson is a real nutjob.
The problem with these kinds of appointments is that everyone knows they have "clout" and a regular link outside the org to the WH so they get much more leeway to act than a career employee.THey can't act unilaterally but they can and do push back to their superiors in pursuit of their views. We always suspected that they also keep lists of folks. Friendly, not friendly. But this guy must have had photos on someone to get an admin job.
ReplyDeleteI just googled the name real quick and found a lot of articles about him. The only one mentioning this stuff was from Media Matters which is far from a credible source. Do you know if this stuff is really true? If not, should you really be posting it?
ReplyDeleteRe: @11:59...
ReplyDelete...says some anonymous commentator who "just googled the name real quick".
I did the same google search didn't see this stuff either?
ReplyDelete@11:59
ReplyDeleteRegardless of whether Media Matters is a credible source, you do realize their article provides direct links to each of their claims, even to Patterson's personal website?
Over half of SSA workforce is women ... Many of them presumably married and undermining society.
ReplyDelete@ 5:14, say it's not so!
ReplyDeleteNext thing you know wimmins will be allowed to complete an education beyond 8th grade, earn a degree or two and wear a judge's robe!
Try searching in Google with "site:familyinamerica.org". It's eye opening.
ReplyDeleteNow I can't prove it but you realize he is in charge of the group that likely reads this daily so the likelihood of at least one comment being his or directed by him is strong. And Media Matters is "Left" as much as those "family" organizations he worked at are "Right". But quoting back what he said on those sites with links kind of reduces the "Fake news" attack. If he was proud enough to write those things, thanks to Media Matters for finding and putting them all in one place for easy access so I can read what he said and decide for myself if he is actually a nutjob or not.
ReplyDeleteAnyone that wants the job is a nut job. It is a lose/lose position with no upside other than the money you can make when you get out.
ReplyDeleteJust a different flavor of nut this time.
SSA organizational chart revised today shows job previously held by Robert Patterson is now vacant.
ReplyDeleteAssoc Commsnr, Office of Strategic and Digital Communications (Vacant)
If I was one for betting
ReplyDeleteI’d bet there was little vetting
His opinions on sex
Seem sure to perplex
And to some are quite upsetting
