What Are The Numbers On The Back Of My Social Security Card?

Greg Heilman writes about the myths and urban legends surrounding Social Security numbers.

I don’t know about numbers on the backs of Social Security cards. The only number on the back of my Social Security card is the form number — but I still have the original card I received at age 16 many years ago. Things have surely changed.

  1. I'm still rocking my original got in the 1960s card myself but suppose the changes in card issuance use the numbers on the back as the article states. Mine is hand typed on card stock held by a FO, a technique long since abandoned. So control or serial numbers makes logical sense. Hence why the conspiracy theories. Daddy's card ain't got no numbers, mine does - uh oh!

  2. I still have my original card from the '70s that I too got when I was 16! Same on mine, just the form number on the back and some writing (I forget what it says...something about the use of the card). I'm with 7:34 on thinking they are control/serial numbers, however, mine is not hand typed. I wish it was though!

  3. In the old days you could tell which state the card was issued in. That has gone by the wayside although it would still apply for many adults.

  4. Those numbers are a secret code to set the program in the chip that was included in the vaccine that was created by Zuck to turn us all into robots to be controlled by the elites that work for the Lizard People that infiltrated our government after Area 51 cover up.

  5. I had long since lost my SS card and I applied for a new one. There are, indeed, numbers on the back in red starting with H

My guess this is an internal code of some sort to tell them where it was issued but doubt it means anything at all.

  6. They are used for tracking and tracing the card stock, independent of the SSN, for printer and physical processing malfunctions. They also are great for fraud detection.
