Only 263K cases pending a hearing, and hundreds of management judges barely holding hearings (national, regional and local chief judges, as well as NHC judges). Why is SSA hiring more ALJs?
Because your Congressmen told them to! And because (unlike you?) they‘re capable of seeing further than ten minutes into the future, so they realize that with constant attrition the situation you describe is merely months from being turned on its head.
And the FOs continue to do more with less. Our office is small and short staffed. By the end of this month it will be worse as we have someone retiring. We spend most days on phones and reception and NOT taking and paying claims. So frustrating.

DeleteThey obviously feel they need even more management judges, of course. There apparently can't be enough of them.
