From the Baltimore Banner:
... “Everything was smooth and very positive, and it seemed like this was a great place to work. But now, no one knows anything,” said a Baltimore-area Social Security employee who has been with the agency less than a year. “I still don’t know if I’m going to have a job.”
That employee, as well as other current Social Security workers, asked for anonymity out of fear of being targeted by the administration. ...
The Trump administration said it is terminating most probationary workers across federal agencies. About 4% of Social Security’s 58,627 employees nationwide had less than one year on the job as of spring 2024, according to the most recent federal data available. ...
I can't copy them here but the photos that accompany this article are evocative and depressing, more so than the writing and the writing is good.
thanks for sharing... it is indeed sober and depressing.. It doesn't have to be like this. It doesn't need to be this way.
ReplyDeleteIt is disturbing that they have such a disdain for federal employees and programs that support people that don't look like them nor subscribe to their mistreatment of fellow human beings, while all the while getting richer.
ReplyDeleteEmployees in good standing and doing an incredible job should not be caught up in this madness. The oligarchs and their helpers need to have their hearts examined big time! So much hate and purposely inflicting harm on others will be punished in God's time...it is coming so try to stay the course and continue performing in a professional and exemplary manner.
The only silver lining I see in all this is that perhaps it breaks the fever of all this anti-Government madness. Decades of railing against "Big Government," and now the American public will get to see small government in action. Something tells me they won't like it.
ReplyDeleteAs Mencken said, democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. It's cold comfort, but with one party spending the last 4 decades hellbent on destroying government services, it was always going to come to this.
So do we have an actual number of SSA employees that have been forced out yet?
ReplyDeleteAnd wait until everyone sees the supposed “waste fraud and abuse” that the DOGE freaks claim they found in the disability program. It’s going to be an excuse to purge the current rolls and make new claims nigh on impossible. -say it with me- if you claim you can’t work (and you’re not say paralyzed, catatonic or near death)YOU WILL be treated as engaging in “fraud waste and abuse” and cast aside like so much trash. When the cessations and denials roll out they won’t be checking who you voted for or if ur sporting MAGA merch_ The billionaire class needs to eat and you’re on the menu.
ReplyDeleteVery good article, has a good pulse on the agency - even mentioning the famous Salsa Grill
ReplyDeleteUhhh if you have seen the FEVS, you know that there are few places worse to work for than SSA. It’s basically professional slavery with terrible technology. No one in the private sector treated me like a kindergartner with a PhD. But the public will suffer, and who cares about them amirite.
