The House Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a hearing with Commissioner Frank Bisignano for 2:00 on June 25th. This will not be a full Committee hearing. It’s a joint hearing between the Social Security and Work and Welfare Subcommittees. The Work and Welfare Subcommittee has jurisdiction over SSI.
Bigger conversation than just SSI.
ReplyDelete“[T]o discuss necessary improvements to customer service at the Social Security Administration and plans for modernization to ensure Americans retain access to the essential
benefits they expect and deserve.“
Won't be surprised when Fearless Frank says that it's time for Social Security to start contracting out it's customer service functions...
DeleteFor those in the FO, there has to be an easy fix for some of this. What are the simple issues that come up in the office and clog the queue? For starters, our notice letters suck and need to be a lot clearer. Need to entirely revamp the template on those. They're worse than the IRS ones.
ReplyDeleteOne question for the hearing should be what will be the impact on SSA disability claims if the Big Beautiful Bill kicks people off of Medicaid. Will those folks apply for disability benefits in hopes of getting the coverage back? Is Frank ready for this tsunami?
ReplyDeleteI wish someone would press him on giving us an accurate workforce update. How many employees are here, how many are gone, and a current OrgChart. We are literally changing policies, closing applications and services etc because staff has left, mailboxes are not being answered and requests are going to people who aren’t here anymore and just sitting.
