At Least Somebody Is Benefitting From Ticket To Work
From a press release:
Love the pot calling the kettle black on someone making money on the disability program. LOL
ReplyDeletePayments of fees to attorneys and others for representing Social Security claimants:
Month/Year Amount
Jan-09 $101,128,880.69
Feb-09 $112,791,207.17
Mar-09 $104,155,187.96
Apr-09 $110,133,425.19
At least Mr. Hall and other attorneys must gain a favorable result for their clients in order to receive a fee. When I last looked the Ticket to Work program only succeeded for something like one half of one percent of the eligible population.
ReplyDeleteBut MAXIMUS isn't picking the pocket of disabled people.
ReplyDeleteAttorneys can get up to $5,300 for representing someone at an ALJ hearing. What is the going rate to represent someone on a speeding ticket or DUI? More or less than $5,300 (probably soon to be 6k).
Claimants are free to represent themselves. However, the allowance rate at hearing for unrepresented claimants is much lower than for those with attorneys. In some areas, Legal Aid organizations will represent claimants without charge.
ReplyDeleteHowever, attorneys' fees for other issues vary across the country. A DUI will cost you plenty, even without considering the fine. In CA, a friend of mine ended up paying around $9000 bucks (fine extra) for a DUI (first offense). A simple divorce in FL goes for about $4000 up front, and for any protracted property or custody disputes, you pay extra, usually by the hour. Social Security attny's fees are within normal limits for fees for all kinds of common legal issues. Again, attnys are not mandatory.
