Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue will hold a public hearing on November 18 in San Francisco on his "compassionate allowance" project. The topic for this hearing is young adults with schizophrenia. Only invited witnesses will be allowed to speak.
Adding schizophrenia to the Compassionate Allowance project is a really stupid idea in my opinion. Many claimants who allege it don't actually have it, and the necessary evidence is often difficult and time-consuming to obtain, and it's pretty damn certain that they're not going to make the regulations simpler for these people to be approved, which would actually be compassionate.
