Colvin Gets Nomination To Become Commissioner Of Social Security

The President has nominated Carolyn Colvin to become the next Commissioner of Social Security. Colvin was confirmed as Deputy Commissioner of Social Security in 2011. That term has ended but she may remain in office until a successor is confirmed. She became Acting Commissioner when Michael Astrue resigned as Commissioner last year. Colvin will remain as Acting Commissioner until she is confirmed. No one has yet been nominated to become Deputy Commissioner.

this is the best we can do?

Well at least she said the judges don't have to do 500-700 cases a year... Wait until Bice and Sklar hear that.

Oh this is just abysmal. The woman is a small time ward-healer, not a leader of a serious organization. She was marginal (i.e., p-poor) as a secondary Deputy, less than marginal in her current job, and now totally Peter-Principled as Commissioner. Lord, Obama has absolutely no one in his organization who knows anything about running large organization. And he clearly has no interest. I'm a supporter, but this breaks the bubble.

Astrue's people (Sklar and numerous other functionaries) are still calling the shots in ODAR, and because Colvin does not seem to have any original ideas, she hasn't be inclined to replace them.

Wasn't she brought back to act as COSS out of retirement? The best Obama can nominate is a rehired annuitant?

He seems to have more white nominations than of color. According to what i have seen on the news. So i'm glad she nominated.

to 12:44, no, she was not brought out of retirement to act as COSS. She was confirmed by the Senate as Deputy Commissioner under Astrue.

to 7:46 pm -- NO, Astrue had nothing to do with it. Colvin was Obama's nominee - Astrue had to deal with her whether he liked it or not. He was a Republican appointee as are all his cronies who are still hanging around feeding off the government.

to 7:46 PM......you haven't looked at where all the Astrue cronies are:
only a few are left - most have left. Most of the inner circle are blacks who have delayed their retirement when given higher profile jobs, some whites called out of retirement and some other "wannabees" who will tell her what she wants. Nothing has been done except some showy stuff for press consumption like the Disabled Veteran initiative which apparently has brought benefits to 10 or 12 vets.

The President's bench is either not very deep, or he has decided to "phone in" the rest of his term. I hope Colvin is prepared to deal with the storm that she will face after the next mid-term election. There's nothing left to do now but to sit back and watch the train wreck.

6:16 - You're kidding, right? Or are you really that simple? Pigmentation as qualification? You realize this person theoretically has to actually run a massive organization, right? Geez...

6 year term, 78 at full term...Pres Obama doing what Bush did to him with Astrue, saddling a raging old time dem in the office after he is gone just in case republicans win.
