From a television station in Alabama:
A Tuscaloosa Easterseals worker is facing federal prison time for wire fraud. Court records show Tamara Jean Conwell will plead guilty in the case.
Conwell worked as a representative payee with Easterseals of West Alabama, where she managed the benefits of nearly 250 social security recipients.
Federal prosecutors say she schemed to use more than $105,000 intended for those beneficiaries for her own personal expenses. She has agreed to pay that amount in restitution. ...
Seems like there is a lot more fraud in and around the system than committed by those ON the system. I suppose if one knows how the system works, it would be rather easy, especially in higher up positions. A true claimant with no ill intentions would rarely know the system that well.
ReplyDelete11:32 the amount to be gained by an individual drawing on one account fraudulently isn't enough to make it worthwhile for most people. Skimming rep payee funds, fraud in moving a large volume, redirecting benefits, or working several accounts is where the money is at.
ReplyDeleteEaster Seals of West Alabama is my payee for my disability funds. I had to first hear about it on the news. When I called Easter Seals to see if I had been affected, I got the biggest PR rambling that included “the story got it wrong, it wasn’t that bad, she agreed to pay the money back, blah, blah...” It was despicable. The most-vulnerable get money stolen, and it’s “not that bad.”
ReplyDeleteAm looking for ways to handle my own finances.
My name is Terry Travis Criss I am one of the victims. Cornwell was my paye rep. for about 4 years. I'm also a Navy Veteran 6 years sevice to my Country that I Love dearly. The past is the past I try to forgive and forget. What concerns me now is I think it's going on again at that same company. I hope and pray they are being audited. IN GOD WE TRUST.
