From the Washington Post:
All federal workers will shortly receive an email asking what they did last week — and that if employees fail to respond, it will be taken as a resignation, Elon Musk wrote in a post on X Saturday. …
From a press release:
AFSCME, Alliance for Retired Americans, AFT Challenge DOGE’s Access, Executed by Unconfirmed, Acting Official, to Confidential, Private Data of Hundreds of Millions of AmericansSuit filed on heels of SSA Acting Head’s Departure Amid Concerns about DOGE Access to DataBaltimore, MD — In a new lawsuit filed on Friday night, retirees and unions sued to halt DOGE’s unprecedented, unlawful seizure of personal, confidential, private and sensitive data from the Social Security Administration, without any express authority. Such access has been granted by an unlawful acting official, installed at SSA with disregard for the rules governing such appointments. ..

Lets not forget that DOGE was created and funded unconstitutionally by the executive branch without authorization from Congress, and is being run by a leader whose appointment was unconstitutionally executed without the advice and approval of the Senate.
This is what a fascist dictatorship looks like, kids. Brought to you by the very idiots who claim to respect the constitution most of all in the persistent “most patriotic American” pissing contest they perceive themselves to be in at all times.
The playbook in Project 2025 in which the press two sided the issue.
If federal employees are feeling traumatized right now, Russell Vought, the new head of the office of management and budget (OMB), probably has something to do with it.
“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected,” Vought said in a video revealed by ProPublica and the research group Documented in October. “When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work, because they are increasingly viewed as the villains. We want their funding to be shut down … We want to put them in trauma.”
1. Stressed out
2. Talked to co-workers about resignations, retirements, RIFs
3. Prepared my resume
4. Assessed my personal budget
5. Thought about buying a Tesla
a. Showed the DOGE boys where they can find PII on every citizen
b. Made a copy of the READ ONLY PII and beneficiary data (just in case)
c. Analyzed fraud and improper payments (I see dead people)
d. Sought sweet MAGA revenge (only partly finished on this one)

Not responding. This is the end.
I hope they ask the contractors the same question. That is where all the money is spent.
After that I expect them to ask all the disability beneficiaries what did you accomplish this past week? New CDR fast track program
Charles thanks so much for keeping up with all this. With so much crap going around, this blog feels like the only place where employees, claimants, reps and anyone else who cares about social security can try to make sense of things.
NOBODY should be surprised by how Trump/Vance/Musk are going after federal employees, whether you like it or not. If you voted for the man and are now shocked by what is happening then you are too ignorant, naive and/or unintelligent to be a federal employee and should quit immediately. The rest of us will either grin or grimace the next 4 years while continuing to do our best to serve the American public.
Preach!
How many federal employees did not bother to vote? Ignorance is bliss. The midterm elections are in 2026 and that will give this administration a speed bump if the Democrats take control of Congress.
I voted and donated hundreds of dollars so Im probably on a list somewhere and just waiting for that to be used against me.
Does anyone know who the new political appointees are at SSA?
All these tears? The federal government must be the only place where asking to document what you did last week is a crime against humanity. Toughen up, buttercup. If you're doing good work you have nothing to worry about.
6:48 please. Federal employees are the bluest of the blue, it's gotta be 98-2 democrat (not counting military). If that is your argument then Trump is smart to fire a missile into the bluest pastures of employees who will hate him no matter what he does.
The move by Musk, whom Trump has tasked with overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency, comes after the president earlier Saturday posted on social media that he wants the Tesla CEO to “get more aggressive” with his role. Trump also has previously said he is authorizing everything Musk is doing as one of his advisers.
Trump wants to be aggressive no matter the federal employee in order to justify the tax cuts of 4.5 trillion that benefit the top one percent.
What are Dudek's five bullets?
Uh you know what happens when you assume? There are plenty of conservatives in the federal civilian workforce, plenty. The fact you don't know that just speaks to your shooting off your mouth while knowing nothing.
Ten SSA offices closed?
Their first wave of actions — initiating the elimination of 41 jobs and the closing of at least 10 local offices, so far — was largely lost in the rush of headlines. Those first steps might seem restrained compared with the mass firings that DOGE has pursued at other federal agencies. But Social Security recipients rely on in-person service in all 50 states, and the shuttering of offices, reported on DOGE’s website to include locations everywhere from rural West Virginia to Las Vegas, could be hugely consequential. The closures potentially reduce access to Social Security for some of the most vulnerable people in this country — including not just retirees but also individuals with severe physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as children whose parents have died and who’ve been left in poverty.
Everything I do each week is tracked. How long it took me to move each thing is tracked. No email to DOGE is necessary because SSA already has all this data. SSA sends me an email every day with these stats. This email is just about trolling and trauma.
No, the ten offices were satellite ones and of no consequence. If DOGE really wants to save then they should close almost every office and move the services online. Monitor teleworking employees and enforce high production standards. You'll save billions in decrepit federal buildings no one wants to work in, you'll whip employees into shape and they'll be happier, and you'll have the best and most efficient government at the lowest price. O'Malley couldn't do that and sadly DOGE doesn't seem to want to do it either.
Worked at the agency for over 25 years. Have sent weekly status reports and how it contributes to the program I work on. No big deal. Show them your value.
1050 a significant portion of the public is unable to use online services which is why local offices exist. If SSA becomes online only a significant portion of seniors/ disabled/ vulnerable populations will be unserved. During the covid pandemic the office closure created a universe of applicants and claimants who could not receive vital services.
Not really. The Executive Office of the President (EOP) reorganized the U.S. Digital Service (USDS), as the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Service. Just rebranded. USDS folks have been at SSA in the past along with other agencies. I agree I do not like the way Elon and his boys have been going around heavy handed. USDS was a bit more lighter touch.
You obviously missed the memo that Republicans want to ELIMINATE teleworking. Let’s get back to planet earth where a hearings office and ten satellite offices are closing along with numerous SSA employees being let go. I didn’t even mention the MAGA in Chief that temporarily runs the SSA agency.
I think the email demand is going to really cause immense backlash and generate some significant reaction by Congress and lead to negative polls. Whatever you think of feds, an unelected billionaire immigrant making such extralegal demands is way out of bounds, even for this crew.
I’m not sure the leopards have a big enough appetite for all the red state faces that voted for them.
“Whip employees into shape”
You realize bad employees become much worse while working from their ADS? You’ll have to empower management to dismiss poor performing employees to make it work.
Most federal agencies who’s offices have expiring leases should expect those leases to not be renewed by GSA and those offices will be closed like the OHO office in White Plains NY.
Some agencies are advising their employees not to respond. Perhaps by Monday SSA will do the same. If not, I'll do what I'm asked and send the Email. Although it will just take time away from my job processing claims and paying claimants and attorneys.
If anything this list of accomplishments is an insult to supervisors, as it implies they don't know what their employees are doing, or are allowing some to do nothing.
Although I'm a registered Republican, I didn't vote for Trump, as a Social Security employee I knew he would not be good for the agency. My vote was a protest vote, for RFK Jr. I am considering switching my party affiliation to Democrat or Independent, due to the radical actions of Trump and Musk, and their abuse of federal employees.
There are way more than 2 percent Republicans at SSA. Maybe less than in the geneal population, but I would guess from working there that it's not much less. I used to be one myself.
Well it is working. An SSA employee died of a heart attack at work last week. This was at headquarters. The day before, DOGE showed up and Michelle King was ousted.
HSBC exec Mark Steffensen is supposed to start next week, but I don't know if they vetted him. He did a podcast celebrating the virtues of DEI. If he wasn't just trolling, then I don't know how he made it through the DOGE screeners.

Ignore Musk - sounds like he's got rehab in the near future - or a secure psychiatric facility
Thinking with your Trump/Musk boner instead of your brain, eh? The whole premise of the email is that federal employees spend their workdays the way Musk does- goofing off, getting into pissing fights on Twitter, and playing video games. It’s nothing but another insult. And at this point, thousands of very brilliant hard workers have lost their jobs to these ghouls.
11:33, in those 25 years, did you ever send your weekly status report outside the chain of command because an unelected oligarch sent a Tweet and you received an unsigned e-mail from OPM?
Yeah, me neither.
the irony, in a sane world something like this is easily reportable to OGE and the media for waste and abuse. work computer systems already track and report work accomplished by employees.
how many taxpayer dollars will be wasted in time, distraction, and resources reviewing and complying with this nonsense? How many countless number of citizens will have to wait even longer in line and on calls while hundreds of thousands of federal employees across the gov't are busy dealing with this nonsense? does opm have the manpower to waste reading through hundreds of thousands of emails to so-call confirm the worth of responses or will that be left to an AI overlord to decide?
its not about showing your worth as one earlier commenter put it. its all just waste trolling and overreach.
Depending on the state that you reside in, I would keep yourself registered as a Republican. That way you can vote against who you do not want in the primaries and vote for whomever in the general election. I do that as a fiscally-minded socially conscious conservative registered as a Republican but not really aligned with any party nowadays.
Comes under waste and abuse.
Can both sides be wrong? The request is waste because how can he possibly read the information and make an informed decision. But it takes any busy person twenty seconds to complete; no need for tears.
75% of donations from federal employees went to democrats. So whoever is claiming there is a significant portion of the government made up of conservatives is lying.
What you don't seem to understand is exceptions can be made for those who don't have internet. You don't put everyone in offices to address the 0.008% who don't have internet access. You could actually send someone out to their home or a local library, much easier and cheaper. Build policies geared to a connected and online future. DOGE would be heroes for closing down all the buildings.

i'm taking you're joking with the 20 seconds estimate. a very conservative estimate is between 10-15 minutes to assess tasks/assignments and then compose review and send such a response. now multiply that by a million plus federal employee responses. how much time and money and resources is that costing the american people. how many calls decisions and people waiting in line does all that add up to? I'm no mathematician or accountant but i'd guess quite a lot.
all of this coming from the supposed leader of gov't efficiency. no, this is leading by waste and trolling.
No one is going to read the responses. They will run it through an AI program which will be looking for key words.
I am sad an employee died. However, the lesson of the last 5 years applies: "correlation does not equal causation."
AFGE really taking DOGE to task arent they? DOGE fears the power of AFGE dont they? Wonder why you pay AFGE yet? AFGE done ONE thing about this?
How many people have returned to work because the union got the dismissal overturned? Waiting over here.....
