Don’t judge a book by its cover department…

All in all, NRP found the “estimated savings from the initial DOGE list of just over 500 contracts” that have actually been canceled “runs closer to $2 billion” — with “ending research studies into early childhood education improvements, canceling access to financial market resources and the proposed halting of billions in international foreign aid work” among those cuts.

From $2 billion to … $2 trillion?

It’s early yet — but it’s clear from DOGE’s first round of accounting that Musk & Co. still have a long way to go.

Until the 1990s, White South Africans of European descent ruled South Africa, enforcing the brutal system of apartheid against the country's Black majority.

But Mr. Trump alleged in his order that White South Africans are now the targets of oppression by the country's government, citing a law that U.S. conservatives like Trump adviser and billionaire Elon Musk have said allow racially motivated seizures of land owned by White South Africans. Musk was born in South Africa.

South Africa's government has strongly denied any land confiscations or racially motivated discrimination, saying the law being scrutinized targets land not being used or not serving the public interest.

In his order, Mr. Trump instructed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to "prioritize humanitarian relief, including admission and resettlement through the United States Refugee Admissions Program, for Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination."

Once Milei took office, Musk showered him with online compliments and talked business with him behind closed doors, as my colleagues wrote last year. He has done the same with right-wing leaders in India and Brazil, in a convenient marriage of his political beliefs and his desire to make more money for his companies.

And Musk has made a point of talking up Milei’s approach to government cuts, calling them “awesome” in a January post on X and praising Milei for “deleting entire departments.” He’s now calling for the United States government to do the same.

Musk doesn't realize this isn't a laughing matter, nor is it right to use a prop to mock people who have lost their jobs. He should lose his for this stunt.

DOGE was so secretive it took weeks for the public to learn who was operating the machinery of the federal government. When Wired revealed Coristine was only 19 in early February, the story exploded. “Everyone was talking about it, including faculty,” says an upperclassman at Rye. “I’m just shocked they are giving him such an insane role, and the fact that someone from my area is contributing is surprising to me.” When CNN ran a segment on Coristine and his Big Balls moniker, Musk responded online with two crying-laughing emoji.
“He’s really developed as a person in the last couple of months,” Sethi says. “I think school — high school, college — isn’t for him. It’s just too limited. There’s some people that need education to learn, and there are some people that don’t need it.”

Not to mention the fact that cuts to preventative research are likelier to result in unbelievably high costs in the future that will outweigh any savings by orders of magnitude.

Lol. It’s like Elon is doing an improv show and the prompt was “show us you're a pathetic unloved loser with a tiny penis without telling us you’re a pathetic loser with a tiny penis”
