SSA Seeks Information On AI

The Social Security Administration is seeking information to examine “how to better leverage AI and agentic AI capabilities across SSA programs, workforce, and infrastructure.” There’s no additional detail about what they’re seeking so I have to think they’re at a very early stage.

This is consistent with past Republican, and sometimes Democratic, behavior — an eagerness to spend billions of dollars on contractors accompanied by a great unwillingness to spend money on personnel to make the system work.

Yeah I mean the very obvious plan is to let attrition decimate what's left of the workforce so that AI can save the day.

The current strategy seems out of order, though.

The promised efficiency improvements from AI are still missing according to most large corporations that have deployed the tech. Until we see real progress that is repeatable across several industries, SSA should stay away from the hype.

AI is distraction from easy efficiency gains that could be gained from regulatory changes that simplify case processing and facilitate automation. AI will not fix a broken system, and its impossible for AI to automate routine tasks without first implementing POM/HALLAX reforms.

It’s funny how management likes to experiment with taxpayer money. It’s time

They aren’t in early stages. They’ve already decided that AI can do the work. I recommend inserting hidden text prompts/instructions in your submissions for the AI to ensure you get the outcome you want. And make sure you appeal each and every denial. They’re all going to be legally indefensible. It sucks for everyone involved save for the tech bros, but we may as well make the most of it.

Are you really an attorney representative or are you just trying to make them look bad?

It only seems out of order if you care at all about the poor, middle class. and disabled, and want the programs to be viable. It’s been a long time since anyone like that was in the executive suite at SSA. The current crew in fact seems to despise all of those groups and enjoy watching them suffer.

Yeah, anyone who has returned something expensive to Amazon recently sees exactly how well AI is working out there.
