The Social Security office in Salinas has made a move to improve service to the community, even as potential candidates for the presidency debate the existence of the system.
While the financial fate of the Social Security Administration hangs in the balance, the Salinas office was transplanted from its former location on Alvin Drive to 928 E. Blanco Road, in part to be able to treat customers with more dignity, Social Security officials said.
I do not know this reporter's motivations, but this looks like a ridiculous effort to turn a simple story into a propaganda piece.

Nearly all SSA filed office are in leased space. When the lease runs out a decision is made whether the office should remain or move to a better location, a more modern facility, etc. Moving an office is a very expensive proposition and is only done when the perceived benefits outway the costs. Often times an office moves because extensive remodeling of current space to accomodate systems or other requirements while not closing to the public is extremeely disruptive. I worked in an office that had to move because the city eliminated all parking within blocks of the office. Even if an elderly or disabled claimant could be dropped off by someone, this meant stopping in a lane of an urban highway.
