Are Undocumented Immigrants Such A Bad Thing?

Those nasty undocumented immigrants that Donald Trump wants to keep out of this country with a fence are actually contributing about $13 billion a year to the Social Security trust funds. Why exactly is it crucial that we hunt down and deport all of these immigrants when the U.S. birth rate is so low?

We/SSA collects a lot of money from illegals using dead peoples' SS# or others. We keep the $! We need every penny. And you reps need to help fix the system of YOUR livelihood will be hurt! If we only have enough $ to pay 79% of what we owe, that INCLUDES accrued benefits from which your fees come! So help fix the problem. That Democratic plan to raise the limit to $400,000 and the rates by .1% per year sounds viable to me.

The baby boomers reaching retirement age, without enough people in workforce to counter balance them, is reason for SSA shortfall. Allowing more immigration of young couples with young children is definitely one way this shortfall could be addressed for the long term.

They are exploited in good times and demonized in bad times. we have done it over and over through out our history. Irish, Chinese, Italians and eastern Europeans. They were all subhuman rapists, murderers, and disease carriers according to the yellow press and know nothings of their times. The key thing the MAGA crowd is missing is we are now in declining life expectancies and birth rates for many of our home growns which will have HUUUGGE implications soon. We might be clearing out prisons worldwide for immigration purposes before it's over. Also, weren't some of our original colonies basically penal colony dumping grounds for the mother country? Probably contained a lot of the ancestors of the MAGA folks.

Because the United States is a country with laws, and these people ignored those laws to trespass in the US. most of those people work under the table or use a non issued SS number, which in itself is another crime. We need to CONTROL our bordered and do everything possible to prevent those with extensive criminal records in here. We need to do everything possible to curb the flow of deadly drugs and human trafficking. I am all for immigration, but we cannot open up our borders to the entire world, as it would be chaos. Alternatively we can increase the numbers of ports of entry and sincerely try to help SOME people; we cannot help them all.

We were all immigrants at one time, so unless you're Native American, not much can be said here. I'm tired of hearing the United States is a country of laws... um, ALL countries have laws. One would think there would be laws about locking kids in cages. Don't be throwing out lawfulness until the government obeys their own laws. If one thinks its ok, under any circumstances, to lock kids in cages, they're anti-American, not to mention the lack of compassion. Is there a law for compassion? No... there's not. So, since there isn't a law, why practice it? They're only our fellow humans... not American's. See the mindset?

Donald

Surprised to see you here

But, most of people here illegally came on legitimate visa's and just never went home. All the "border" security in the world won't stop that. E-verify taken seriously might help, but that doesn't require a wall.

And, yes they are acting illegally, just as my father did in 1920. Didn't stop him from serving in US Army and driving a tank for four years from North Africa to Germany and getting wounded twice in the process.

You paint with way to broad a brush. Very few are violent criminals. Most border crossers do jobs in farm labor that would not be done by good old Americans.

The United States did very will with no immigration restrictions before Chinese Exclusion laws let to other restrictions in the early twentieth century. Probably not workable now because of the incredible country those immigrants, and earlier ones and later ones, created. Too many people want to come here. So, sensible restrictions are needed and measures to limit the ability of over-stayers to stay here are needed. But the kind of CONTROL you speak of is just so much hot air.

No methodology was revealed or any rational explanation how the figures quoted were calculated. I would label these figures highly suspect suspect since the author is quoting 11 million illegals living in the US, a figure that has been floated around since Clinton days.
