It will miss 10/1 - 10/3.
For majority it will be partial payment. Receive 70% of typical pay for Sept 22-30, will not receive the 30% for Oct 1-3.
Federal employees are supposed to receive a partial paycheck at the usual time for work performed through September 30.
Pay will be for the September portion. The 3 October days will be paid upon return.
That should be a 70% check for most employees, covering through 9/30. I would not be shocked to see a processing delay given staffing, but fingers are crossed.

Assuming no CR this week or if there is one but not enough time to adjust pay in time for the 10th, the pay will be for 7 of 10 days.

The average employee will be missing 30% of their gross paycheck since three out of the ten workdays were placed in furlough status. It'll be a bit different if you work a different schedule or had some overtime on this paycheck.
Most of us will see a net paycheck short more than 30% since most of our deductions are still the same.
If you’re dumb enough to wonder why someone in a field office might be out ”sick,“ this is your answer. No one should have to spend whatever meager savings they’ve been able to accumulate on the poverty wages this nation pays its lower level public servants to pay for childcare just so they can come continue to work for the literal slave wage (by which I mean no pay at all)

Everyone including the media and politicians need to stop calling this a shutdown. It’s not. Especially for SSA. Most SSA employees are required to work and vast majority of SSA services are provided. Sure, many employees at other agencies are furloughed. But overall most essential services are still provided. The only way for anyone to truly care and politicians to feel the heat to do their jobs is, unfortunately, to feel the pain. Agencies should be required to close offices and the phones, not take claims, not process cards, and though largely automated, don’t pay benefits. Then people will complain. Then perhaps action. SSA didn’t always provide today’s “shutdown” services. Same with other agencies. It’s become a game at employees’ expense. Yes, employees are required to be paid retroactively. So how is this efficient and not waste (I’m talking to both sides)? Some reduced services and then everyone is paid (yes they should be it’s not their fault) and leave is restored. That’s waste. Truly nuts.

No, two wrongs do not make a right. However, when employees are constantly getting screwed over because these shut downs never actually affect the American people, the only ones who are hurting are the federal employees. Perhaps federal employees have simply had enough, especially after the way that they have all been treated this year.
If this lasts another two weeks, Fed employees will not get paid for the 10/13 holiday even when receive the backpay, per OPM.

So, American public servants should just bite the bullet to thier budgets, their lives and plans because of some greedy billionaires don’t want to pay for the medical care for low wage workers that they make a profit off of? Bite me.
I used to work at SSA. After the 2013 shutdown, SSA starting excepting most everyone in the event of a shutdown.
Why don't employees put in a tentative annual leave slip before a potential shutdown? If the shutdown happens, you are furloughed and do not have to work due to the pre-approved "annual leave". If the shutdown doesn't happen, just rescind the leave slip.
Once the shutdown is over, there will be no charge to leave balances and you will get paid retroactively without having to work during the shutdown. I am surprised this hack isn't more widespread.
Yeah, totally a way to game it, but again, why is the life goal to always try to be a government suck and get something for nothing. We need less of these types rather than the alternative.
We serve the American people who depend on us, always have and always will. Trust me, claimants I’ve helped appreciate it so it’s why I come into work. BTW I am also one of those who got screwed over…I mean “reassigned” to the front line.
Annual leave is cancelled. You would have to make a separate request for furlough status.
