Bomb Threat In Florida

From NBC-2 in Fort Myers:

The sheriff's office is investigating a bomb threat at the Social Security Office on US 41 East.

According to authorities, a woman called in the threat at 9:49 a.m. Thursday.

She reportedly said she was not happy with the service she received at the office so she was going to blow it up.

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident, but managers at the Social Security Office have decided to go forward with business as usual.

No evacuations have been ordered and the office is open.

We were talking about something like this at work the other day that with all the shootings at school and such; that with all the people waiting on getting disability and some losing everything they have, that it is amazing and no one has shot up an SSA office.

There was a killing at a Social Security office in Sacramento California about 5 years ago. A disgruntled, mentally ill man walked in and shot and killed the guard. Policies changed after that. Bags are searched. Even off duty cops can't bring weapons into a Social Security office. The front end employees interview behind walls and windows, except when the offices get too busy and the management calls all employees up to interview and all the windows are full. Then, people are interviewed in a open room with just a few cubicle walls separating the interviewees. The doors to the rest of the office are locked and off limits to the public. Employees have panic buttons and the federal police are notified directly if a panic button is pressed. In my town, the federal police can arrive in a matter of a few minutes, but things could still happen with some of the loose cannons we see as claimants.
