The Nonpersistence Of Memory

There is no news that I know of in Social Security world, so let me share a vignette from a conversation I had recently with a client. I knew the client must have been out of work for at least a year and probably two but I didn't know when she had stopped so I asked her when she stopped work. Her answer: "Uh, uh, uh, what's today?"

Actually Charles, you may only think they haven't worked in a few years. I cannot count the number of files I see where the claimant has been work or is actually still working and the rep has no idea. This usually happens when the rep is just retained or when they haven't met with their client in several years. Sometimes it is well above SGA but usually it is just below. Still has to be explained.

I once held a hearing with a woman who happened to be 1: unrepresented; and 2: the desk clerk at the hotel at which I was staying.
