ICE Will Be Given SSA Appointment Info

       From Wired:

Workers at the Social Security Administration (SSA) have been told to share information about in-person appointments with agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), WIRED has learned.

“If ICE comes in and asks if someone has an upcoming appointment, we will let them know the date and time,” an employee with direct knowledge of the directive says. They spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. …

Noncitizens are also required to appear in-person to review continued eligibility of benefits. …

ICE arresting people outside Social Security offices with help from Social Security is highly disturbing.

There are a lot of people with the same names. At some point they are going to haul an elderly or disabled US citizen from a field office to ICE detention and there will be an uproar. Of course there is no need to wait for that to happen to get upset--it's bad on its face. But some people will only care once it happens to someone they have sympathy for, and some people have awfully narrow sympathy ranges.

I can verify this is true, and has been communicated to managers.

I thought DJT wanted to be dictator “only” in day one? 🤡

Most people won’t care when it happens even if the victim is a child with cancer, because MAGA rite?

Dudek opens the door to this administration and now he’s giving advice.

Dudek says a directive to share details about in-person appointments would
be "highly unusual," particularly
because the SSA is meant to be a "safe space” for people to come to, regardless of immigration status. "If a person is
due a benefit, SSA is there for them and no harm will come to them,” he says.

Dudek says, “diminishes the value of what SSA is to the public. Why would the public trust SSA anymore?”

As an FO cs this would be great. I'm so tired of illegal immigrants getting free money. Every heard on non mssics cases? That's where we pay illegal parent that have a child born here. I could go on about how they benefit from state welfare...

I THINK you mean undocumented parents (it’s not illegal to be a parent, nor is it illegal to be a person) - or parents who are not work-authorized - of citizens who are children with disabilities. And the SSI funds are for the child citizens who meet the legal requirements of the program. What exactly upsets you so? Just that you have to process the case outside of MSSICS/CCE? You do get paid to do that job, right?

This agency is "dropping a dime” to ICE officials. This once proud agency has now become a cesspool. I wonder how Republican voting SSA employees feel these days.

Never made sense to me when the rare illegal alien that came into the office with an appointment, so we had contact information, that we couldn't notify border patrol.

As the reply above states, the benefit is for the U.S. citizen child who meets the legal requirements of the program, not the undocumented person you seem to have so much antipathy for, 10:57pm.

The benefits that the undocumented parent would be getting are for their disabled child, who by being born here, is a citizen. Which means the citizen is getting the benefit.

Good luck finding appointments in ESS. The system is so flawed and impossible to use ICE wont find much.

Proud sums it up.

That's what I thought. People just won't schedule appointments, and best I know they won't be required based on information that came out late last week.

Why would anybody care what Dudek says anymore? He was a lackey given a title for a few months. He has no real leadership knowledge of the agency. Michelle King was acting coss about as long as him.

Undocumented parents will just have a family member/friend who is documented be the payee for their eligible child and collect that way..

Dudek was the source of this article.

Social Security numbers are issued to US citizens but also to foreign students and people legally allowed to live and work in the country,” the outlet observed. “In some cases, when a child or dependent is a citizen and the family member responsible for them is not, that person might need to accompany the child or dependent to an office visit.”

Indications that ICE has Social Security field offices in its crosshairs as part of the Trump administration’s large-scale, lawless mass deportation campaign sparked outrage. In a joint statement, Reps. John Larson (D-Conn.) and Richard Neal (D-Mass.) said that “under this administration, ICE has been transformed into Donald Trump’s secret police force—accountable to nobody.

Well, guess who just stopped using SSNs when making appointments for people to bring in their permanent resident cards as part of claims.

What a shitshow.
