SSA Now Has White House Liaison

The current organizational structure of Social Security shows Larry Dye as "White House Liaison." According to the Wayback Machine (and yes, there is such a thing), there was no such position when Jo Anne Barnhart was Commissioner, or for that matter when Larry Massanari was Acting Commissioner. Dye was Chief of Staff for Barnhart.

Why does Social Security need a White House Liaison?

Because this guy used to be chief of staff, got his job originally due to politics and politics (with both capital and small P) requires the guy to be taken care of until he either stays with the new boss or finds a new job somewhere else. It also means he probably doesn't have to drive to Baltimore anymore and works out of the DC office. The Senior Advbisor came from the WH via the Heritage Foundation and he's still around. Politics.
