The Pew Research Center reports that just 22% of Americans say they can trust the government in Washington almost all or most of the time. This dissatisfaction has many causes but poor public service at many government agencies, including the Social Security Administration has to be part of it.

I don't trust government.
I view the social security administration as a cold,and calculating agency with too many over-paid workers($80,000 and up).
The result of 30 years of "government is bad" being drummed into everyone's heads 24/7 starting with Reagan and perpetuated by talk radio and Fix News. And a failure to counter this stuff with news of the good things government does.
Gov't is run by and for corrupt politicians, who tax people to death and then try to bribe them with their own money.
People are tired of political crooks on both sides of the aisle.
All incumbents should be voted out of office in November.
i would agree that it is the politicians' fault primarily. congress tends to pass well-intentioned laws and programs but then have no way of properly funding them. so i agree that congress cannot be trusted.
but please dont blame the powerless employees. we want our government to work better, as well. it is not the gov't employees' fault that we are buried under a mountain of work with no help in sight.
I'd love to see an overlay of "access to credit" on this grpah.
"Trust in government" is a dreamy, euphemistic phrase. When you get down to brass tacks, we're really looking at a quantification of how many people would like to externalize shortcomings and struggles (particularly those of a financial nature) in their personal lives onto a faceless bureaucracy.
