Tech Denials are more likely as 3rd party filers assist more. (private or state) People are applying closer to onset resulting in more SGA denials. SSA is more likely to load an deny a claim for T2 aa State facilitators prep SSI applications.
Internet claims. Folks really want SSI but there are so many exceptions to file that online. But one can always file SSA online so they do. Our internet unit in a medium sized DO probably has 40% or more of technical denials, either not insured or failure to complete Disability Report. Some internet filers that are not insured have filed 2-3X in the past year.
I see technical denials based on SSA's mishandling of paperwork. I have had two in recent months because SSA claimed they never received documents that were later found by SSA (one hand delivered, one by certified mail). Then you get a reconsideration case that nobody wants to work on.
@857 If it's a technical denial for disability (such as no medical release or disability report) the recon should be treated as a reopening/initial claim since there was no medical decision by DDS.
Insurance filings by LTD and any hospital stay now a days they want to file SSDI and Mediciad apps on everyone. The third party filers get paid to file, not get anyone approved. Everyone treats the program as a chance to roll the dice and see if they get paid.
I learned early on as a CR to take the claim. The important thing is to protect the rights of the individual regardless of the likelihood of allowance or denial. This includes protecting appeal rights or allegations of misinformation. You never wanted to be accused by an individual that you discouraged them from filing a claim.
Whoever at the agency made this chart including the 1% approvals but not including the ALJ approvals is an a**hole. It's just taunting claimants and reps to note the AC pays 1% which is obviously by design since we are now 6 FYs in a row that the AC pay rate is 1%.
I think you are misreading the table. The table seems to show that technical denials represent a higher percentage of SSID decisions but this does not necessarily mean that the number of technical denials have increased, although that may be the case. Technical denials may be for a number of reasons, including not being insured for SSID, or failure to establish other non-medical factors.
