Growth Of Social Security Online Presence

It is getting better too. Setting up a MySSA account can be a bit daunting, some of the security questions are difficult. It is good for a number of mundane tasks, filing for Medicare A only is a breeze, takes about 10 to 15 minutes and saves you a vacation day sitting at the local office.

The MyMedicre site is also super handy. Electronic EOBs, replacement card order or print the new card right from the site, shows all your coverages, handy tool. People need to take advantage of these sites, they are time savers.

Sure, like to be able to do more, but we are getting more services and options all the time. I am sure there will be some complainers here, they would complain if you gave them a bar of gold that it was too heavy, but these sites work and are useful.

It would be great to allow SSI disability applications online for all SSI applicants. Not just for those that have never been married.....such a weird rule. Also, if the reps could upload forms and paperwork to the online DIB applications that would be super handy as well. Reps can do that with Recon and RH appeals why not allow it on applications? Less paperwork snail mailed or faxed into the SSA field offices would be a massive time saver for everyone.

Re: 1:40PM,

SSI applications probably won't be available online for a good while. The reason it is currently limited to those who have never filed is that the income and resource information for new claims propagates into existing claims for households in which the claimant may have been (or is still) present in. You end up with duplicate and/or discrepant income/resource issues because the claimant literally can't see what is already in the SSI system from prior filings. Similarly, discrepant or outdated data may (and will, I promise you) propagate from the living arrangements of other individuals whom the claimant may have been (or still are) shown in.

So, literally, not only could they mess up their own claim, they could also mess up those of other individuals.
