The Chairman of the House Social Security Subcommittee plus the Chairman of the Subcommittee having jurisdiction over the SSI program have asked the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to perform a study on service delivery at Social Security during the pandemic.
That's fine but I'd prefer a hearing.

It will probably reveal service is still poor.
It should look at the various ways in which certain types of cases were intentionally delayed or put on ice, why, whether it was authorized, and how much it cost or saved.
It should also ask why all SSA employees (DO, Payment Centers, OHO) are not working up to speed by now,six months later, since SSA should have provided laptops and tech support by now. Some employees are not at risk and could work the paper cases. SSA used to allow paper cases to be taken home for work-at-home, before ERE.
An in-depth examination of OHO would reveal the injustice to the public as far as service goes. It’s criminal
