There is talk of a partial government shutdown beginning on October 1. I hope this doesn't come to pass but if it does there should be little immediate impact at Social Security. Below is Social Security's government shutdown plan from the last time this issue came up. The plan could have been updated a bit since then but I strongly doubt that there's been a major change.

The shutdowns only constrict workloads for us, not anything else.
Same deal as always for us on the front line .. ANGST ... I guess same as the public in the COVID environment .. just a tad less since any losses in income will likely be forthcoming .. this was not the circumstance 30 + years ago .. a hint to my tenure !!

"Unlikely to be much affected" while forcing 53,000 SSA employees to work without pay. But we'll pay you at some unknown future date! Must be sweet to have work at home though. If we employees go back to the office AND don't get paid maybe that would satisfy some of the haters on this blog?

12:45 its good practice for when you retire but the office is closed and your retirement doesnt start because your online application didnt go through because they want your original birth certificate.
Online claims frequently don't require your birth certificate.
"frequently dont" means sometimes they do.
