From WWNY:
A Watertown [NY] man is accused of threatening to shoot employees at the Social Security Administration.
City police charged Charles Brown, 26, with a misdemeanor count of making a threat of mass harm.
According to police, Brown called the Social Security Administration on Bellew Avenue in Watertown on Tuesday and became upset with the service he received.
He allegedly told the employee on the phone that he planned to shoot the worker in the head and then shoot the rest of the staff at the office. …

Sad. Just another day
My guess is that the threat level against SSA employees has increased but the agency does not release that kind of information. It will get far worse once SSA benefits are cut for everyone in a few years unless Congress acts.
SSA employees should receive hazard pay. The job won’t get any easier with Medicaid cuts coming after the midterms due to the Big Beautiful Bill.
Frustration with service or not, threatening to kill all the staff should be a felony, not a misdemeanor. When you water down charges you weaken protections. I wonder if the threats were made to non-federal workers if the charges would not have been more appropriate.
Charlie Brown?! Was Snoopy the getaway driver! How bad is customer service at Social Security that even Charlie Brown is losing it on claims reps?!
Am I the only one who feels bad for Mr. Brown? Customer service is so atrocious it makes otherwise peaceful individuals lose their minds. Hard to see this as anything other than a reasonable response. Was relieved to see he was only charged with a misdemeanor, which hopefully can be dismissed by a judge.
Hopefully you’ll never be threatened with a bullet to the head for trying to do your job.
Hopefully, you will never be in some of the situations these claimants fined themselves in. Not an excuse for threatening someone but there is really no excuse for the way this agency often treats people either. Neither is okay.
He didn’t threaten SSA he threatened a person trying to do their job!
I was threatened by a claimant over the phone. The call was recorded. State police went and arrested him and he was sentenced to two years. And it DOES need to be publicized!
I would feel so guilty! Some poor family is missing their claimant-relative simply over some heated rhetoric over the phone. I always laugh when threatened, I know the claimants are just blowing smoke.
Rhetoric matters, there's a reason we have gaurds and security measures. Do you not remember the Oklahoma City bombing?
