A small band of pro-immigrant groups rallied outside the Social Security Administration's Dallas office Friday and called on the agency to keep its data out of immigration enforcement efforts.About half a dozen demonstrators, including state Rep. Roberto Alonzo, D-Dallas, delivered letters asking the administration not to allow its "no match" letters to become part of immigration enforcement.

These people should be told that this is a DHS program, not SSA!!!
So what if it was a SSA program, it needs to be done.
Illegal aliens should be deported, not supported.
Round them up and throw them out of the country.
Oh for crying out loud, drop this silly "round em up" nonsense. Ain't enough cops in all the world, much less this country, to do that, even if they all stood up and said "here I am, come get me."
Sure all hell can set up check points for drunk drivers and to make sure people are wearing seat belts, but oh no we can't make an effort to round up illegals.
In the 50's it was tried and had a positive effect on removing illegals and discouraging them from coming. Of course then we had judges that thought more of enforcing our immigration laws, than worrying about hurting the feelings of some special interest group.

Oh sure, in the 1950s there were what, a couple thousand (or even a couple hundred thousand) illegals in the US, v. today, when there are at least 12 million, by the best estimate. I'm sure you'll be the first to volunteer your basement and/or living room as an extra holding cell....
Like we will catch all 12 million in a week or month. We grab as many as we can and ship them south like they did in the 50's. We that bunch is gone we grab another load. Just plan BS that because there are some many and will never catch all of them we just do nothing.
And as our truck(s) "ship" them south, a replacement "truck-load" will be sneaking into the country at the very same time. Enforcement doesn't address the issue, dear friend. Until the incentive for coming here illegally is removed, it will continue to happen, all enforcement efforts aside.
So now it's we can't stop them from coming, so we just do nothing.
Nothing is going to stop every person trying to get in the country or catch every illegal that's already here, but something needs to be done and sending out those no match letter would have been a step in the right direction.
Well, doing the wrong (or useless) thing isn't helpful either. We've got to get at the root causes of illegal immigration, or we'll always be chasing our tails.
Root cause is easy to figure out, people can make more money here than where they came from, but they drive down wages here.
Probably unlike anyone else that has posted here, my wife and daughter came here legally on visas and are now U.S. citizens.
I don't like it that people sneak in here that have never had a medical exam or background check and have jumped in front of people that are doing the process the right way. They shouldn't be here let alone be working and they should be rounded up and shipped out.
OK, everyone ought to follow the rules; no one would argue the opposite. But what "should" be is irrelevant if the reality is such that there is no practical way to make it happen. Whining and stamping feet in frustration isn't helpful at all.
